WORKING CLASS FATHER OF FOUR

I am a family man who built his life in Kamloops 17 years ago after moving up from the Lower Mainland to establish a good quality of life when I had my first child.

My Background includes 15 years in Sales Management, 7 years in General and Operational Management and 4 years serving on a Community housing Co-Op board, including as a president.

During my late teens and early 20s I travelled across Canada staying in many different smaller communities such as Smithers BC, Parry Sound Ontario and Montebello Quebec and Volunteering within local communities, Care homes and Indigenous Friendship centers.

I’ve spent a good portion of my working life being in a suit and tie, I no longer liked how distracted it made me as a father, always being connected to my phone and chasing the next commission cheque.

I tried a few new paths out and eventually I starting working with my hands and previous skill sets as a General Manager for a local tire shop and that’s where I have happily been since 2021.

I, like many of you have watched our city decline, our loved ones feel less safe, refrain from walks or going to certain parks and playgrounds and have also felt our representation has been detached from the well being of our livelihoods and from our amazing local businesses.

I moved to Kamloops to seek a better life and I want to ensure that is available for my family and yours.

Becoming a Father was answering a call to serve and I see becoming involved in Municipal Governance as that same opportunity.

Success after my term is over means:

Do our streets feel safer?

Are we leaving Kamloops in a better financial position than when we came in?

Do the residents and businesses feel heard, validated, supported and like they are a part of our present and future again?

Best regards,

Rob Bertrand
